burnt canvas was the first piece written after graduating from my master’s degree. It is a somewhat longer work that explores sonorities that echo distantly of classical repertoire. Quiet stasis and the disappearing of sound form a resemblance of classical music but a distant one. The possibility of it lies beyond the horizon. This work was written in Thetford, Vermont and bears some marks of my time there.

This piece was gratiously workshopped and recorded by Karen Kim, Chris Gross, and David Friend through Talea Ensemble’s recording residency at Queens College. Gratitude to Adrian Morejon, Tori Cheah, and Gleb Kanasevich for supporting the recording of this work.

This is the work I am most sore about it not having a performance. If you are in a piano trio and interested in giving the premiere, please get in touch.
