Thetford was recorded on location at the Thetford Hill Church in Thetford, Vermont. This church has the claim to being the oldest continuously active religious space in the United States, and the worship space has remained indicative of its history and heritage. Weston Olencki and I’s duo UNIONBLOCK formed during the chapter of our lives where we had both moved to Vermont as an escape during the pandemic, and the nature of our relationship to the obscure parts of New England formed the backbone of much of the musical poetics that went into this recording. We recorded the record in one night in November 2021, where we stayed in the darkened church from sunset until early in the morning.
